Christmas light timer help
Start with the timer before reporting a dark display. Outdoor timers vary, but the same few checks solve many schedule and power problems.
Basic checks
Five things to look at from the ground
Is the timer receiving power?
Look for a lit display or indicator. If it is blank, check the outlet and GFCI without opening equipment or handling installed wiring.
Does the current time look right?
A power interruption can reset some timers. If the clock is wrong, the on and off schedule will also run at the wrong time.
Is the timer in Auto mode?
Manual On or Off can override the programmed schedule. Return it to Auto only if you recognize the controls and can do so safely.
Is the problem the whole display or one section?
A dark section with the rest of the display working is usually not a timer problem. Take a wide photo showing the affected section.
Did weather just move through?
Rain, wind, and brief power interruptions can affect outlets, timers, or a section of the display. Do not reset a breaker repeatedly.
Do not touch exposed wiring, damaged cords, wet connections, roofline lights, or equipment above normal reach.
